The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issues 3 types of wireless emergency alerts (WEAs) to all WEA-enabled mobile phones in a geographical area:
1. Alerts issued by the President
2. Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
3. Amber Alerts

Consumers can opt out of type 2 and 3 alerts - imminent threats to safety or life and Amber alerts - but cannot opt out of the 1st category of alerts - issued by the president.
We hereby demand that the FCC allow WEA-enabled mobile phone users to separately opt in or opt out of each type of alert.
For example, a WEA-enabled mobile phone user who wants to be able to receive type 1 and type 2 alerts, but not type 3 alerts (Amber alerts), should be able to do so.
