Every year TAX preparation software companies make billions of dollars by taxing common people for eFile as high as $35 to $45 for each state. These companies have strong lobby to keep the status quo and Government is obliging them by not acting.
Let a common person be allowed to file Federal and State tax electronically and create an open standard. Right now it is a closed thing between IRS and big Tax preparation software companies.
Each software company resort to price gouging to extort maximum money for State eFiling. There is nothing wrong in making money but not through price gouging and through an illegal tax imposed by private companies.
