Whereas the "Citizens United" decision has made the use of public financing in presidential campaigns unfeasible, and whereas the growing national debt and future insolvency of the Social Security Trust Fund are two of the greatest threats to the security of present and future generations, the government should replace the option to direct $3 to the Presidential Election Campaign Fund present on current 1040 tax forms with the option to direct $3 towards either paying down the national debt or towards extending the solvency of the Social Security Trust Fund.
