A Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor(LFTR) is a new type of nuclear reactor that fissions thorium into uranium 233. Because this reactor uses thorium that is already molten, there is no risk of a nuclear meltdown. Also, an LFTR reactor produces 99.9% less radioactive waste than today's nuclear reactors, and the waste that is generated can be used to treat cancer and power space probes for long trek space explorations to mars and beyond. If we switch to thorium we can completely end our reliance on fossil fuels and therefore end the threat of climate change. The United States alone, has enough thorium to last our country for almost a thousand years, if not more. LFTR reactors can also burn our current nuclear waste stockpile, therefore reducing most of our nuclear waste storage facilities.
