Children with diabetes that are enrolled in public schools should be allowed to self-manage their diabetes on school grounds. Allowing them to self-manage would alleviate school personnel or the student's parents/guardian to manage the child's diabetes, and lessen the chance of chaperones on field trips. The public school also may not have a trained personnel on site to administer insulin, or emergency medication. Ofcourse, parental, and medical authorizations would need to be provided to local school boards that the child is capable of self-managing. New Jersey has a similar law N.J.S.A. 18A:40-12.11-21. Thank You.
