Allow Drug Treatment instead of Imprisonment for Non-Violent Drug Offenders.

Created by D.L. on December 24, 2012

The "drug war" has been a monumental failure. Drug Addiction is a National Health Problem. For Profit Prisons have encouraged the philsophy of locking human beings in cages for non-violent drug offenses. Studies have proven that Drug Addiction can best be treated in a medical setting. These studies have also proven that crime such as burglary, robbery and prostition have decreased in areas where drug addiction was allowed to be treated as a medical problem with medical solutions. This petition asks the Obama Administration to develop a strategy for shifting Drug Addiction away from a law enforcement/imprisonment issue to a health issue and to begin releasing non-violent drug prisoners (especially those with extended sentences) and start shifting that money into the health care aspect.
