The Obama administration has decided to delay the implementation of Obamacare’s employer mandate until 2015. The mandate was supposed to go into effect on January 1, 2014, but concerns over reporting requirements for employers caused complaints from employer groups wanting more time to restructure. Meanwhile, thousands of Americans who otherwise could not have afforded healthcare will be left unprotected for an additional year.
The employer mandate requires that firms with 50 or more employees provide health coverage. In our opinion, it is more reasonable to expect firms of this size to navigate government policy than it is to allow those without coverage to continue to forgoe medical treatment. Business interests should not supersede compassion for our fellow citizens.
