We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Allow extension of Driver's License while an immigrant has filed petition to extend his/her stay in the United States.

Created by V.P. on November 21, 2016

Currently, DMVs of many states including California, do not allow extension of Driver's License while an immigrant's visa petition for extension of stay is in process(e.g. H1B/H4/L1 Extension). The existing law, considers an immigrant in Legal status during this phase and allows them to work and avail other benefits applicable under their visa types. On the other hand the DMVs do not allow extension of Driver's License citing non-verifiability of a valid status, that contradicts what the laws suggest. This causes extreme hardships for the beneficiary and their families by not allowing them to drive, which is a basic necessity of modern life. We are requesting the White House to take up this matter on a high priority basis and have DMVs accept visa petition doc as proof of stay.
