It is time and past to repeal the 1996 Dickey amendment that stated, "None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control." It has effectively stifled reasonable, impartial research on the effects of gun ownership on the public's health and safety. The CDC's highway safety studies led to safer highways, and studies of gun violence could lead to safer guns or safer gun usage. Let the CDC do research and save lives.
