The Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) system allows access to federal court documents such as judicial opinions. All of the files in PACER are public records, but retrieving them currently costs $0.10 per page. With the recent controversy surrounding the suicide of activist Aaron Swartz, now would be the perfect time for the White House to come out strongly in favor of open, transparent government. We therefore urge the White House to issue an executive order allowing free access to PACER for all citizens.
