Pharmaceuticals have been know to enter the ground water supply after being consumed, disposed of in the trash, or flushed down the toilet. The news recently urged consumers to dispose of the medication discretely in the trash which may allow this mediation to enter groundwater supplies.
This program would:
Increase participation in environmentally sound disposal of unused Pharmaceuticals. Program should be free to consumers.
Reduce the amount of medication entering the groundwater from waste water and garbage.
Safer home environment by reducing the chance that children/teens/elderly acquire unused medication accidentally and/or abuse them recreationally.
Est $ for Program $882 million (approx .04% of Budget)
316 Million People x 70% take meds x $3.99 retail cost.
