Foreign STEM workers with H1B visas should be given priority for green card application. The current lottery-based application system discourages immigrants with science backgrounds to stay in the US. The problem is exacerbated for those born in China and India since the annual cap for visas is limited. House Democrats also rejected a bill, the "STEM Jobs Act”, which would have improved the speed of permanent residency application for foreign STEM graduates from American universities. With so few foreign scientists staying in the US and such a small American labor force with a science background, this places significant strain on future economic development. Approve a Jobs act to enable foreign nationals with science backgrounds an easier path to residency!
