Congress and the White House has expressed displeasure in Iran's chosen representative to the United Nations due to Hamid Aboutalebi's alleged connections to the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Iranian embassy. There is no credible evidence that Hamid Aboutalebi was involved with the actual takeover and he is very well qualified to act as Iran's voice in the UN.
Aboutalebi obtained his Ph.D. in historical sociology from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1999 and has acted as ambassador of Iran to Australia, the European Union, Belgium, Italy and also political director general to Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
We as a nation have no right to chose for other sovereign nations, and if we deny Aboutalebi's visa, we are only showing the world that we are the schoolyard bully many think we are.
