The American Red Cross has made it ineligible for males who have had sexual contact with another male, even once, since 1977 to donate blood. It is believed that this requirement is based off opinions of homophobia, rather than medical concerns. Recent research shows that 49% of infected persons are African heterosexuals; more and more homosexual males are practicing safe sex now a days. I believe one should be allowed to donate blood if they have passed a HIV test negatively within 24 hours of donating.
