This petition is the allow further independent investigation into the mystery of the sinking of the USS Scorpion (SSN-589).
Under mysterious circumstances on May 22, 1968 after following orders to observe Soviet naval activity, the submarine was lost with all hands aboard near the Azores Islands in the Atlantic. US Submarine Veterans have already petitioned the Navy to allow independent visitation to the site to determine further information with technology available today.
Unfortunately, the request to visit the site was denied under the Sunken Military Craft Act.
Honor the memory and bring closure to surviving family members of the servicemen aboard. Allow investigation into the mysterious sinking of USS Scorpion.
