Due to economic conditions in the 1990s through today, many organizations are closing or reorganizing. As a result their pension programs are being taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranteed Corporation (PBGC). Employees that have earned pensions are only able to recover a portion of what they had coming after serving an organization for a number of years. This petition asks that the employees severed from their companies due to bankruptcy be allowed to purchase service time in the event that they obtain employment in the public/government sector.
