Criminals will always have access to illegal firearms. Punishing law-abiding citizens who simply want to be able to defend themselves is unconstitutional. The police are minutes away when seconds count. It is a proven fact that for every 1% of people who conceal carry crime rates drop 4.6%. Crime rates in Chicago are the highest in the Nation because Illinois did not allow conceal carry permits until recently. In other countries where guns have been banned crime rates are much higher than they are in the United States. People who intend to harm others will find a way to obtain weapons illegally just as they do now. Law-abiding citizens are not the root of the problem regarding mass shootings and disarming them will do nothing to stop them.
