Please allow families to be accompanied by their pets as they explore America's natural beauty. Currently, most national parks do not permit pets far beyond roadways. However, there is no reason pets cannot join hiking. Those opposed claim domesticated animals disturb the wildlife. This is easily solved by the reasonable provision of using a leash at all times. It is also argued that pets create unsanitary conditions. As with any area open to the public, owners should be required to clean up after their pets. It should also be noted that horses are permitted without any such sanitation requirements. Parks would not be considered responsible for any injured or missing animals. Americans would love to be able to bring their entire family on their summer vacations.
