We petition the White House to allow for longer petitions on the Whitehouse.gov site. The intricacies and arguments for some complex issues take more than 800 characters to explain. Since the White House will only respond to petitions that reach a certain threshold and digital files take up very little space, there is no reason to limit people to 800 characters. It stifles real discussion. If someone just rambles on, people just won't sign the petition. If they actually compose a longer compelling argument, then the 800 character limit is self-defeating.
