Enlisted or those who reside in the dormitories (barracks), receive their meals through what is called a "Meal Card". Through this method, about 300 dollars are subtracted from a paycheck monthly to pay for the meals.
Though there are several choices at the dining facilities, most of them are not healthy choices. They claim that 65% of individuals approved of the taste of their food; other categories have rated meals to be "acceptable". Many would rather receive the pay that is subtracted and purchase their own food.
However; it is not a choice. Without any decision, every month, this amount is deducted from Marines' paychecks. If they can be given the choice to enlist, why shouldn't they be able to decide how their earned money is spent?
