As Medicare recipients, we would like to have the option to pay our own medical expenses covered by Medicare B and D, but current law makes this very difficult to do. Why do we want to do this? Because the insurance premiums we pay cover less than 25 % of the cost of the two programs; the remaining 75% or more is paid by other taxpayers now working or by borrowing, which will be paid for by our children and grandchildren . According to the 2013 Medicare Trustee report, premiums collected were $66 billion and expenditures were $303. We do not want others paying our bills when we are able to pay them ourselves.
If Medicare recipients could pay their doctor and drug balances immediately after the Medicare reduction, it would save not only money but hours of paperwork.
