US Army JAG attorney Maj. Jason Wright must be reinstated to complete the defense of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) in the military tribunal at Guantánamo Bay. KSM faces the death penalty if he is convicted, and Maj. Wright has an ethical duty to defend his client fully to the conclusion of the case, but his superiors have ordered him off the case, forcing him to resign from the Army because of the conflict of interest between his orders and his legal duty. A vigorous defense in a capital trial is a cornerstone of the Rule of Law, and showing the world that we will give even an accused terrorist a fair and just trial, is in the long run our best weapon against terrorism. Our national honor demands that Maj. Wright be reinstated to complete the defense of KSM.
