The PCT is the only trail system running from Canada to Mexico. It should be open to more than equestrians and hikers to be a truly democratic trail system. Aoout 200 hikers a year complete the trail and only a privileged few people can afford horses or transport horses to and from this trail. Opening access to mountain biking will also prevent unauthorized trail use and enhance relationships between citizens and the land managers. This would provide a means to get more people onto this trail for recreation. Horses on this trail are not roaming as they would in nature but are lead by riders on a maintained trail. They damage trails with their weight. PCT can be constructed to support all classes of trail users and should be available to cyclists as well as other non-motorized citizens.
