Federal employees are often unable to take vacation or personal time near Thanksgiving and Christmas to spend with their family. To correct this action, the white house should allow, EVERY YEAR, non-essential federal employees the ability to take freely, vacation, personal or unpaid time off on the days before and after Thanksgiving and Christmas. This will boost morale and decrease absenteeism.
When Christmas is on a weekend in the future, those days off would be the Federal working day before and after the scheduled holiday.
Since employees would be using their own vacation, personal, or unpaid time off it won't cost the government any additional money plus the Federal government can save money by shutting down federal buildings for longer stretches of time.
