As our nations national parks become more popular, an increasing number of activities require special permits. The permitting process, however, is cumbersome, antiquated, confusing, and inconsistent between parks. Many national parks only accept permit applications by mail or fax. These applications are then read by a person, manually entered into the system, and a response is manually written and mailed back to the requester. This process typically takes several weeks. This petition requests that all permits for national parks can be applied for online and that they are reviewed by an automated system and instantly approved or rejected. Furthermore, a searchable system should exist to find open dates for a given permit with email notifications alerting users when a permits are opening.
