Evil-doers with guns who go on mass shooting sprees need to be thwarted by the sight (and actions) of dozens or hundreds or thousands of legal gun-welding civilians who have their firearms visibly exposed for all to see.
It is simple math: legally armed civilians + sight of the armed civilians weapon = less bad guys attempting to commit a crime for fear of being shot by every single armed civilian in the area.
