The United States of America was founded on the principle that anyone has the right to secede from a government that rules in a manner that limits the freedoms, security, and equality of its people. We see the government of the United States as creating an untenable situation for the current generation of Marylanders and generations to come. We the people of Maryland, due the actions of the federal government, are less free, less secure, and less equal. As a result, we request the ability to follow in the footsteps of the Founding Fathers of the United States by seceding from the usurpation of power by the central government. This petition is created in the hope that true freedom, justice, and equality would reign supreme in our government, in our society, and in our individual lives.
