While the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows for working women to return to their position after having taken a leave to have a baby there is no government program in place to support the lost wages during the leave. There are some exceptions in place to take distributions from retirement funds without suffering the 10% early withdrawal penalty; however, taking distributions to replace the lost wages during a Maternity FMLA is not one of them. This would ease the financial burden on the family greatly and allow them to concentrate on their new baby.
