After anti-Mexican rebels broke away from Mexico, they established a republic which, unfortunately, lasted for only one year (hence the words "California Republic" on its flag). With a government focused more on the East Coast rather than the West Coast, along with an increasingly divisive government, influenced by big money, we as Californians want to be able to choose whether we continue to stick with the United States or go its own way once more as the Republic of California
