Law-abiding citizens with concealed carry permits are allowed to carry their firearms in nearly all public places. The exceptions are schools. It is currently a felony to carry a gun into a school even if you own it legally and have a permit. This is a much better way to prevent gun violence then putting guards in every school. A shooter might not think twice about stopping an attack because of this, but there have been a great deal of studies that have shown shootings ended by citizens have much lower casualty rates then ones ended by police or SWAT.
