College graduates that have invested in themselves by paying for their education with federal loans should have the option to make pretax payroll payments.
The collective student debt load is estimated to be at the one-trillion mark, with an average debt of $24k per graduate. Default rates have hovered around 10% in recent years with a trend that shows it is growing.
As tuition prices continue to rise, and as financial aid is cut back, we must find alternative solutions to ensure that we continue to develop an educated and prosperous society. We need borrowers to repay their debts but in a way that spurs spending and economic development.
