Allow Private Individuals to Opt Out of Social Security and Receive Funds Already Paid Into the Program

Created by T.J. on July 09, 2015

The Supreme Court's opinion in Flemming v. Nestor enables Congress to, at any time, raise, reduce or remove Social Security benefits. It also held that benefits are not guaranteed via contract with the Government. Current workers will likely not receive 100% of what they pay in when they retire. Many individuals would rather invest the money according to their wishes in private self-directed accounts.

We request that you ask Congress to enact a provision within Social Security to allow private individuals to opt out of the program entirely. In addition, that individuals who choose such an option be paid back all the funds they have paid into the program, plus interest to match inflation. These funds could only be transferred to an investment retirement account of the individual's choosing
