We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Allow private sellers of firearms to conduct background checks

Created by K.K. on August 04, 2016

People are calling for "something to be done" to reduce the incidence of gun related violence in America. Today, our government does not allow citizens to conduct background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Allowing private sellers to have access to NICS will make it possible for private sales to voluntarily conduct background checks. This would make it more difficult for criminals to access firewithout infringing on the rights of American citizens. The BATFE could charge a nominal fee for access to NICS. This should have bipartisan support and should be passed easily with no controversial amendments or lengthy debate. Let's take a step forward with a real real solution that will make us safer without restricting our liberty. Join us.
