Allow Private Student Loans to be Consolidated Under the Federal Government Student Loans Program.

Created by C.B. on March 12, 2014

Private student loan companies, such as Sallie Mae, have unfair terms and collection practices. The federal government allows for better terms and access to deferment and income-based payment plans, which private student loan companies often do not allow.

Senator Elizabeth Warren's push for reforms of student loans and college costs is supported. And this is just one more step towards a better, more just system for funding American students higher education.

This is not a request for forgiveness, rather it asks for access to fair credit practices for students loans, which is not available from the private loan companies. To accomplish this, we ask that private student loans be allowed to be consolidated with federal loans within the Ed Dept's loan consolidation program.
