In the case of Murder the death penalty is used because you have taken someones life. In the case of Rape you have taken that persons life in a psychological way. People go through multiple rounds of therapy and still end up resorting to violence and/or drugs to make themselves feel better. Also, many victims develop PTSD and other emotional or mood disorders as a result of the traumatic experience. this effects them for life. its only fair we end the culprits life so they cant cause anyone else harm.
