Allow the purchase of diapers with Food Stamp and WIC benefits.

Created by D.H. on September 17, 2013

Families all across our Nation struggle on a daily basis to provide their children with an adequate diaper supply. Currently there is not one Federal Assistance Program that addresses or meets this need. Needy children who have access to Medicaid Benefits, Food Stamps and WIC are currently prohibited from purchasing any non-food items with their allotted benefits. Although this makes sense at first glance, we must take into consideration that these families are in need of assistance because they cannot afford food or medical care for their children. Why then, is it assumed that they can afford the nearly $100 per month for diapers? Even if these families opted for cloth diapering, this still creates an expense that many cannot afford. We ask that diapers be allowed as a Food Stamp/WIC item
