In the wake of the reelection of Barack Obama as President of the United States, certain "conservative' groups have been issuing petitions calling for their state(s) to secede from the Union, citing irrevocable opposition to the policies enforced by him and the majority Democratic Party.
While these petitions should be dismissed as merely "sour grapes" by extremist right-wing groups still unable to cope with the electoral loss they suffered; there is the possiblilty that if these requests are granted, then citizens of those states that do secede who oppose secession will need full protection from reprisals, as well as the option of creating their own state governments that would protect their rights.
This petition asks that those protections for those opposed to secession be granted.
