We the people petition President Obama and Congress to recognize the right for law-abiding citizens to retain their second-amendment rights in current form (as of December 2012).
We petition this not because we are ignorant to gun violence, but because we believe the actions of a few do not reflect the views of many. We believe that an assault weapons ban would not have prevented the terrible events in Connecticut, because law violators will remain just that, regardless of the best intentions of law-enforcement.
We petition this because we believe that our rights encompass owning "assault weapons" to protect our homes and families and to enjoy recreationally. These rights were paid for with great sacrifice, and we as law-abiding Americans expect that they remain unchanged.
