In America, socialism is used as a buzzword. Corporate media has made American people think that socialism equates to communism, and therefore socialism will restrict their freedoms. Socialism is an economic system where people own the means of production. If anything, this is closer to democracy then capitalism, in which all the money and power belongs to only a few people. Serious discussion of socialism should be allowed in the US government; we are a democracy, and all ideas should be represented.
