Allow service members to return stateside with their personal automobile if purchased overseas.

Created by J.C. on January 12, 2013

Today, a service member cannot return to the US with their personal automobile if it is purchased overseas. A service member (or US civilian) is allowed to return to the US with their automobile if it is "US Spec". A "Euro spec" vehicle, for example, can only be imported through a small number of specialty importers. The benefits to the military member and their family is the continued use of their vehicle once they return to the states. In almost all cases, these vehicles are extremely fuel efficient and have all of the common safety features, such as air bags and anti-lock brakes.
