The region of Southern and Central Illinois consists of a very different demographic of citizen then the northern reaches of the state. Chicago politics have long governed the way this state is run, and the people of Illinois want their voices to be heard in this government. Many would believe that Southern Illinois is economically dependent on Chicago, but nothing could be further from the truth. If our natural resources were used to their potential, Southern Illinois would be able to sustain itself in its inherit form.
