Those of us who have served in emergencies such as Haiti or Katrina know the calming, stabilizing and deterring effect of the uniform and our presence. Most of us retirees still have our uniforms and require no training to project it's proper presence. We are self-motivated/self-managing and flexible. The taxpayers have already paid for our training; leadership, stress, crisis/hostage, first-aid, marksmanship etc. We have all been screened/background checked by the military and years of professional service.
Sir, you espouse volunteerism. We are here to serve once again.
We would ultimately prefer to pay qualified, out-of-work Vets for those jobs. We petition you to use us, even as a stopgap, until the Country can afford those Vets. Weakening the Constitution is an unacceptable option.
