Allow Spousal Consolidation Student Loans to be Split or Refinanced Individually

Created by F.L. on February 22, 2013

It was said to me today by a Sallie Mae employee "we learned that the spousal consolidation student loans were a bad idea - that's why we don't offer them anymore." Well that's great for everyone in the future but for the rest of us - no help!! There needs to be something done for everyone who was allowed to consolidate their student loans with a spouse who are fighting to make ends meet and have these huge spousal consolidated student loans hanging over their heads. It's hard enough to go through a divorce but to then be stuck with an ex who can't/won't make the minimum payment is ridiculous. Sallie Mae began this "undue hardship" by allowing this for many people and now need to do something to fix it. No one is asking for the loan to go away - just to make it easier to refinance & split
