We request the Commander-in-Chief allow Staff Sergeant Carl Lee Wheless, Jr., U.S. Army, to continue on Federal active duty an additional 55 days. Doing so will allow him to concurrently receive both his retirement pay from the Army and his disability pay from the Department of Veteran Affairs after his medical retirement; roughly an additional $2000 a month more than if he is forced to medically retire as currently ordered on July 18, 2014. He has been unable to use his more than 50 days of accrued leave or request and use the 20 days of Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) usually granted to a Soldier being medically retired. To not grant this request will result in real financial damage; creating a lifelong financial hardship for him, his wife, and his one year-old son.
