Eighteen states and the District of Colombia currently have laws on the books allowing for private, adult use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Now, two states have fully legalized marijuana under state law; and are eagerly awaiting federal reaction.
We petition the Obama Administration to take a clear and decisive stance on this issue. We petition President Obama to defer to state's rights and allow individual states to set their own penalties for marijuana possession, without fear of repercussions from the federal government.
We request that President Obama instruct the Justice Department to no longer prosecute marijuana cases where there has been no violation of state law.
