Allow states to verify citizenship for voter registration. Citizenship is required and should be verifyable.

Created by I.J. on March 19, 2013

States should be able to gain proof of citizenship for voters. Since citizenship is a requirment for voting in the US there should not be any laws stoping states from gaining this information. I as do many other agree that asking someone for proof of citizenship does not infringe on any of their rights. How can we require citizens to go through a background check to own a gun purchaced through a dealer and then turn around and say being checked to vote in not allowed. The current administration also wants to expand the background checks to private party gun sales yet still maintains we can not ask for proof of citizenship for voters. So I would like a direct answer as to why citizenship checks can not be done for voters while background checks for gun owners are allowed.
