Allow for stronger gun control: Amend the U.S. Constitution to CLARIFY the meaning and intent of the Second Amendment

Created by L.S. on December 15, 2012

In recent SCOTUS decisions (D.C. v. Heller & McDonald v. Chicago), the SCOTUS has misinterpreted the intention of the 2nd amendment by declaring that the individual right to own a firearm for self defense is a FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT and incorporated this to the states. This makes it incredibly difficult for Congress or the States to make sensible gun control laws.

We need to amend the constitution to clarify the intent of the framers was a collective right aimed at protecting the militia during a very different time.

We can still ensure limited rights to own firearms for hunting or self defense, but repeal the notion of a "fundamental right" to give states back the freedom to control gun legislation that works for their states. We NEED this in order to prevent future senseless tragedies.
