In America businesses and individuals who get in over their head are allowed to discharge their debt and start anew. The modern student who has her entire life been told of the virtue of a college education no matter the cost is largely in over her head. Many graduate students have debt burdens exceeding $150,000. This "good debt" is largely impossible to pay back for 99% of such students and the debt was largely a mistake, similar to bad investments or a burdensome credit load. Just as corporations are given the opportunity to start anew, this administration should enact legislation to allow students, especially those with six figure debt burdens and no meaningful employment opportunities, to discharge this debt in bankruptcy and free themselves from a modern indentured servitude.
