Student loan borrowers in dire financial circumstances deserve a chance to start over! Under current law, student loans cannot be discharged through bankruptcy, leaving many students and graduates with overwhelming debt that they will face for the rest of their lives. Homeowners and credit card borrowers, some of whom made poor financial choices, are allowed to discharge their debt through bankruptcy and receive a fresh start. Shouldn't college students and graduates be given the same opportunity to start over? Without action, many potential innovators, small business owners, and job creators will will never realize their full potential, because of extreme financial hardship. Give student borrowers the same rights as other borrowers! Allow student loans to be discharged through bankruptcy!
