Allow student loans paid to for-profit colleges to be discharged in bankruptcy.

Created by J.C. on April 10, 2012

Even as young Americans are struggling more than ever to find employment, for-profit colleges are getting billions of dollars of government subsidies in exchange for "degrees" that are largely useless. For-profit colleges target the most vulnerable and needy with promises of value-adding career preparation. They charge tuition far higher than that of community colleges, but provide far poorer education in return. Their graduates have extreme difficulty finding work, and since their student loans are nearly impossible to get rid of, those poor Americans who have been swindled by the for-profits are impossibly burdened with debt for years. This is a gross injustice that the free market has failed to correct. Action is needed.
